Plucky Skolars pipped by Crusaders

London Skolars went down 44 – 28 to Celtic Crusaders yesterday in their second Group 6 National Rail Cup outing at Brewery Field, Bridgend.

The Crusaders, who beat the Skolars on all four occasions that the sides met last season, bounced back from their midweek trial match defeat by NRL champions Brisbane Broncos who are in the UK in preparation for this weekend’s Carnegie World Club Challenge against St Helens. The match was a hard fought encounter, with the Welsh side only sealing the victory in the closing ten minutes with three late tries.

The Skolars can take heart in a far more competitive performance than in their opening National Rail Cup game against Leigh Centurions the previous week and can look to carry that improvement forward into this weekend’s fixture against Widnes Vikings at the Halton Stadium.

Celtic Crusaders: (16) 44
Tries: Blackwood 2, Quinn, Duggan 3, Budworth, Van Dijk, Johnston
Goals: Quinn 4

London Skolars: (18) 28
Tries: Tozer 3, Aggrey, Williams
Goals: Thorman 4
